2024 Needy Ego Arts Festival

Needy Ego Arts Festival: Call to Artists & “Emerging Artists”

Sunday, August 25, 2024, 10 am to 4 pm | 139 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14610

The Needy Ego Arts Festival honors the memory of Ilana Finkelstein, an emerging artist who passed away unexpectedly in 2021 at age 33. In keeping with her artistic vision, and carrying on the name under which she marketed her creations, this festival seeks to showcase Jewish-themed art or crafts, as well as other arts and crafts without religious themes or symbols.

Open to artists and craftspersons throughout the Finger Lakes and Western New York, the Needy Ego Arts Festival offers a showcase and marketplace for established artisans, and also welcomes emerging, inexperienced artists, a group near and dear to Ilana. A portion of the proceeds will go to hosting future festivals and programs that promote the benefits of art throughout the community.

RULES FOR PARTICIPATION

  1. Each artist/craftsperson must submit an application, and if accepted, will receive an e-mail note of acceptance.
  2. All items must be designed and produced by the accepted artist. Original artwork only.
  3. Each exhibit is expected to be open for business for the entire show.
  4. Exhibitors are not permitted to sell or display real weapons, toy replicas, or representations of guns, knives or other items which may resemble weapons.  Weapons are not permitted onsite.
  5. No consumable crafts.
  6. Artists under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
  7. If the artist does not meet these rules, Festival management reserves the right to require the artist to remove inappropriate items or leave the show.

Temple Beth El (TBE) will provide the following to accepted artists
  • Artist can request either (1) a 10’x10’ space in an uncovered area, or (2) placement under a community tent.  Request will be honored if space is available.
  • Under a community tent, Temple Beth El provides each artist a table and 2 chairs.
  • In a 10’x10’ space, artist can provide and set up a tent (max size 10’x10’), and display equipment within their assigned space.  This provides Artist with more room than the single table option, and is strongly suggested for established artists.
  • No electricity is available in the display area.
  • Central payment site to handle cash and credit cards as well as taxes and processing fees.
  • In the event of rain, the festival will be moved indoors with appropriate social distancing and masking requirements in place.

  • Application fees:   Established artist $36;  Emerging Artist $18.  Fee must accompany the application, and is refundable if application is denied. Table space fee is covered by this fee.
  • Cash and credit cards will be accepted for all festival sales. Sales tax amounting to 8 percent of the purchase price will be assessed at the point of payment, and paid to NYS by TBE.
  • TBE will deduct 25 percent of the item price to cover all festival costs, furniture and tent rental, processing fees, and security, with the balance donated to TBE’s Ilana Finkelstein Art Fund to support future art programs. The remaining 75 percent of the sale will be paid to each artist after the close of the festival.
